Science Coaching

Sec 1 & Sec 2 — G2 & G3

Our Lower Secondary Science programme follows closely with the latest MOE G2/G3 Lower Secondary Science Teaching and Learning Syllabus, covering all five themes across 16 integrated topics that bridge Primary Science and the disciplinary sciences at Upper Secondary.

All content is aligned with the requirements set out in the G2/G3 Lower Secondary Science Teaching and Learning Syllabus published by the Ministry of Education Singapore.

Five Themes, Sixteen Topics

The G2/G3 Lower Secondary Science syllabus is organised around five themes that connect science to real-world contexts. Select a theme to explore its topics and learning outcomes.

Theme 1: Diversity

Understanding the variety of matter and living things through classification

Exploring Diversity of Matter by its Physical Properties

Core Ideas

Key Skills & Practices

G2 Note: Pressure and volume displacement of irregular objects are optional for G2.

Core Ideas

Key Skills & Practices

G2 Note: Reverse osmosis is optional for G2.

G2 Note: Reverse osmosis is optional for G2.

The G2 and G3 Lower Secondary Science syllabuses cover the same five themes and 16 topics. The key difference is that G3 includes additional topics and skills marked as optional for G2 (denoted by an asterisk * in the MOE syllabus). These typically involve more complex investigations, additional calculations, or deeper conceptual understanding.

Our coaches identify each student’s track and tailor the coaching accordingly — ensuring G3 students are fully prepared for the additional content, while G2 students build confidence and mastery on the core syllabus.

Lower Secondary Science is assessed through school-based assessments (SBAs) and end-of-year examinations. These typically include:

Theme 2: Models

Using physical, conceptual and mathematical representations to understand the invisible

Ray Model of Light

Core Ideas

Key Skills & Practices

G2 Note: Refraction, dispersion and angle investigations are optional for G2.

HOW ASPIRE HUB HELPS

Our Approach to Lower Secondary Science

01

Bridging Primary and Upper Secondary Science

Lower Secondary Science is the critical bridge between Primary Science and the disciplinary sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) at Upper Secondary. Our coaches help students build strong conceptual foundations across all five themes, so they are well-prepared for the rigour of O-Level sciences.

01

G2 vs G3 Differentiation

The G2 and G3 syllabuses share the same themes and most topics, but G3 includes additional optional topics marked with an asterisk. Our coaches tailor coaching to each student’s track, ensuring G3 students are challenged appropriately while G2 students build confidence on the core content.

03

Inquiry-Based Learning

The MOE Lower Secondary Science syllabus emphasises scientific inquiry — observation, hypothesis, investigation and conclusion. Our coaches develop students’ ability to design experiments, collect data, and draw evidence-based conclusions, building the practical skills assessed in school-based assessments.

04

Connecting Science to Real Life

The five themes — Diversity, Models, Interactions, Systems and Scientific Endeavour — are designed to connect science to sustainability, climate change, emerging technologies and healthcare. Our coaches use these real-world contexts to make science engaging and meaningful for students.

05

Preparing for Upper Secondary Science

For students intending to take Pure Sciences at Upper Secondary, Lower Secondary Science is the foundation. We identify and address gaps early, so students enter Sec 3 with the confidence and knowledge base needed to succeed in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
